class obsevation

English class research 2

Vanesa’s group:

The Class starts with a general salutation from the teachers to the students, after that Daniela gives the “today menu” giving space to informal comments among students, after that the started giving a set of personal example of the activity, Tania asked something and Daniela not just gives a answer, but also a positive feedback. After that Vanesa narrates the story of a rabbit, she gives space for laughs and informal comments among students, some teachers are very strict and lose control when the laughs are present in the classroom, but the group of teachers can deal with it.

I personally believe that it is good to interact and give time to students questions and comments. There were any dead space or silence in the class, so I think that is was a good activity with good use of interactions.

Initiation – response – evaluation lesson sequences

Nicole’s group:

The video starts with the teacher saying a phrase without ending it, trying to make students to participate ending her phrase; in this case the correct answers are limited to what the teacher wants. As she follows the class the teacher looks to the coral response, therefore the gives a phrase without ending and the whole class finish it.

I know that when a teacher is dealing with groups of pre-kinder, first or second elementary children must be very slow when he or she talks, because they don’t understand instructions or commands, some times the same voice pitch or volume can be annoying for an adult but I personally believe that this activity is well made and fits with he pace and interaction that a prekinder teacher has.

Online Turkish

I have decided to make a review on the educational website http://www.onlineturkish.com/ as the webmaster presents in the introduction of this website "OnlineTurkish.com is prepared for self-study, for adults and for those who are studying in school and wish to speak Turkish fluently.The courses include basic grammatical rules, commonly used words and phrases in daily life for both speaking and writing Turkish."

Checking this website has been a very akward experience because this website is not as dynamic and interactive as I thought it would be. just learning vocabulary translating ideas is not the best way of learning a foreign language. for example following this link we can find how colors are taught, unfortunately it does not show any colors at all; the webpage just presents words without showing how to connect the word with an idea or how to pronounce it.

Overall it is a quiet boring, maybe focused on adults than children. in which the presentation of each word with its translation is the quintessential fact that shows us that it follows the questionable grammar translation method.
